Streaming video service own3d shutting down as users move to Twitch TV – report

Streaming video service own3d will shut down within the next two weeks, according to League of Legends streamer AdventSugar. The service has been close to a deal with Machinima, which would give the YouTube channel a foot in the streaming service market. It would have also provided funding for own3d to stay in operation. However the deal fell through, as many users of the service switched over to Twitch.TV. Reports of own3d users not being compensated have also been reported. More over on PCgamesN.

I’d not heard of this rival before looking at this report. I thought the most, if not all streamers used Twitch.

@1 I hadn’t either to be honest. I always just watch Twitch.

I read a piece from a LoL streamer who moved from Twitch to own3d and had constant trouble with late payments, poor quality of service to end-users (hurting his potential income) and broken promises with regards to promised tournament prizes as a part of his initial sign-up to Own3d.

When he decided to switch back to Twitch in breach of his contract, having already assessed that the penalties for breaching the contract early were worth the reliable revenue from Twitch, they reneged on the contract, withholding payments due over and above the penalties he would owe them for leaving early while they had “the lawyers” look into the case.
