Disney Infinity games include on-disc DLC of upcoming movie assets

Disney Infinity will release a new disc every year pre-loaded with assets from upcoming Disney movies.

Speaking with VideoGamer, executive producer John Vignocchi admitted Disney is taking a significant risk of assets leaking ahead of a film's release thanks to hackers poking around in on-disc materials.

"That's something that we've made the film-makers aware of. There's absolute potential that people are going to see characters prior to their PR campaigns kicking off if someone does that," he said.

"But we're hoping that isn't something that is widespread reported because then people are going to start looking for it, and it's going to ruin the magic for the consumer."

I think it's going to be quite hard to stuff that cat back into its little bag, friend.

Vignocchi said limitations of current consoles make on-disc DLC a necessity.

"In the future, as we move on to new versions of consoles we're going to be able to digitally deliver that content, and the figurines themselves will simply be dongles that allow us to then instantiate a download of that content," he said.

"But given the current generation of consoles, the content needs to be on the disc. But in the future we'll be able to push all that digitally so we don't run into that problem," he added.

The developer also dobbed in flattered rival Skylanders for doing the same thing.

"There was the Empire of Ice and all of those different expansion packs that they had that were on the [Skylanders] disc. Thankfully they didn't run into that risk. We might. Who knows."

Disney Infinity is expected to launch in June on a variety of platforms. Character figures with in-game playsets will set you back $35, while a starter kit, with game and three characters, is $75. Power Discs, a buff item used with figurines, cost $5 and up.

Thanks, Shack.
