Tomb Raider is the first Square-Enix title to be localised in Arabic, and with it, a new Lara voice actor has been revealed. Nadine Njeim takes the lead role. Find out more about the localisation and Njeim after the break.

The announcement was made over on the Tomb Raider blog, revealing that Njeim – who is a major TV personality and is currently hosting the Middle Eastern edition of music talent show “The Voice” – is voicing Lara.

Karl Stewart, Global Brand Director at Square-Enic said of the localisation, “We are really excited to be bringing Tomb Raider localized into Arabic for the first time in the series history. In localizing Tomb Raider into Arabic, we hope to reward the long term fans, and also attract many more to this origin story of Lara Croft”.

I am proud of such a move, I am from Egypt, and now they are taking a notice of Arab gamers, it is something to be happy of, Square Enix is one of my top publisher/developer, with games like Dues Ex Human Revolution, Tomb Raider, Hitman, and the upcoming Thief, you can find it hard to hate them, of course not to mention Final Fantasy or Sleeping Dogs, they are a company of Quality.

But I am not going to lie, I like things in their original way, so first time around I am playing with normal English voice, then I will check how Nadine fairs against Camilla, I hope it is amazing, and I hope other publishers follow SE move.

I am arab as well, I hope they step up the dubbing, old anime (Kuwaiti dubs) were the best dubs, nowadays they feel very lifeless as in reading from a book that is written poorly with the same lines repeating over and over, insult and bad words are 100% altered and eliminated, any concepts that doesn’t fit the culture or religion (evolution in pokemon and DBZ) are removed from the plot, missing up the whole story.

I’m not a fan of Lara Croft, I kind of see the first games as iconic of the death of innocence of gaming, and the birth of desaturation, objectification, and gun porn. Still, for those who like them, for whatever reason, I’m glad you’re getting the games you want.

I’m always more for equality, and it’s nice seeing new parts of the world acknowledged. So yes, this is pretty neat.

@9 yeah man, those Arabs, man! So evil with their money! Thanks for sharing the statistics and exposing their sneaky ways to the world!

Meanwhile, in the real world, I’m really excited for this. EA did an amazing job on Need for Speed with great dubbing and Arabic-language menus. I hope SE does a good job too.
