Monster Hunter 4 to have simultaneous release on 3DS, Vita – Capcom debunks rumor

Friday, 18th January 2013 15:43 GMT By Stephany Nunneley

Japanese magazine GameLab posted a rumor that Monster Hunter 4 was delayed from March 2013 into summer so that development on a Vita version could be started. Capcom, has responded to the claim, and you may wish to grab a tissue just in case the news pleased your inner monster slayer.

According to the translation posted on Operation Rainfall: “Whilst originally it was said that the delay of MH4 was due to wanting to make a better quality game and graphics, the real reason appears to be that it may be released on the PS Vita to increase sales.”

The magazine claimed the delay was to ensure a simultaneous release on both platforms.

Capcom SVP Christian Svensson took to Capcom Unity to refute the claim, by stating the following:

“I would not believe everything you read on the internet. It will set you up for disappointment or misdirected frustration.”

See, needed that tissue after all, didn’t you?

Monster Hunter 4 was playable the Tokyo Game Show floor back in September 2012.

I don’t think this will change Japan over to the vita anytime soon, when you have the 3DS is outselling it 9 to 1. The psp was a success in Japan due to Japanese developers strongly supporting it (and so MH became a phenomenon due to the strong support) while Western developers had dropped it in favor of the DS which was booming at the time.

Nintendo as of late have been releasing big titles in small doses per season. So they kicked off the year with their big winter hit Animal Crossing. Professor Layton, MH3U and Luigi’s Mansion 2 will be the highlights of the spring. While MH4 will be the highlight over the Summer and topping the year off with Pokemon X&Y (and any surprises revealed at E3) in the fall/holiday.

And if this rumor were true it’s a little late to announce the Vita version now isn’t it? When they could have announced it at TGS last year when the game was in the spotlight, seems kind of silly to announce it when it’s only 5-7 months away from release.

I doubt it. Although if true, it will just show how better a vita game looks in comparison to 3ds.
A very big double cross by sony if this happens.

But will it have a second screen Dragon!?

J/K man, good for fans that only own Vita I guess. But do gamers follow games or games follow gamers?

As far as I know, there are only one or 2 games that are available on vita and 3ds (like time travelers)in japan. And strangely enough, they sold almost equal amount on both.
That said, this is probably hoax.

Capcom has responded to the magazine’s rumor, saying it’s not true. Sorry to be the one to give you the bad news.

@10 although the possibility of a Vita version could be real… not at the same time as the 3DS one, truly, buuuut…

@11 True! But we have to take it as fact for the moment. Sure you can read between the lines there if you like, but I can’t do that :D :D

@12 You know what they say: When a new Monster Hunter is live, a console system gains a new life (this sounded better in my head). This happened with PSP and I will buy a 3DS just for MH4 (and Majora’s Mask 3D) even though I’m not even a huge fan of the game.
