“Nothing like” Swery’s “too scary” new game – Wada

Thursday, 17th January 2013 00:15 GMT By Brenna Hillier

Deadly Premonition creators Yasuhiro Wada, Tomio Kanazawa and Hidetaka “Swery” Suehiro have more than one horror game in the works, and at least one of them is grotesque enough to elicit a shocked reaction from Wada himself.

In the same interview in which they discuss Deadly Premonition’s development, Swery and Wada made some vague but intriguing references to Swery’s new project.

Swery said that in the course of developing Deadly Premonition, he learned the “limit” or grotesque scenes and how to find the right “balance”, which Wada reacted to with some surprise.

“Balance? But the idea for the new game you showed me the other day was crazy. The character I mean -” he said, before censors clamp down on a most interesting discussion of this unrevealed project.

“It was a really good idea. It’s surely going to sell loads. There’s nothing else like it,” Wada concluded.

Later, Wada mentioned the “cool design” again, commenting that it “might be too scary for the people reading this”.

Swery practically promised a new game reveal during 2013 in a New Year blog post, which many are hoping with be a sequel to Deadly Premonition – a conclusion ably assisted by comments from Wada which teased the announcement of the Director’s Cut as well as an as-yet unannounced sequel.

Wada and Swery closed their chat by commenting that they’ve had a great time working together on Deadly Premonition: The Director’s Cut, and would like to collaborate again in the future.

“We have Kanazawa-san’s new concept for a mystery horror game,” Swery commented.

Tomio Kanazawa was a colleague of Swery and Wada’s at Access Games, where he was instrumental to the development of Deadly Premonition, and could be considered it’s co-creator along with Swery. He’s now one of Wada’s team at new developer Toybox, suggesting this new horror project might actually happen.

Wada has said in the past that he’d like to work with Swery on a new game, which could refer to either of these projects.

Deadly Premonition: The Director’s Cut is due on PlayStation 3 in March.
