Injustice: Gods Among Us comic writer praises NetherRealm’s plot

Injustice: Gods Among Us was written by NetherRealm, and prequel comic scribe Tom Taylor believes the team has avoided the usually flimsy narratives common to fighting games.

“Fighting games aren’t typically known for their narratives. However I’m happy to report that the writers have written an incredible story,” Taylor told IGN.

“To tell you the truth, when the script arrived, I rolled my eyes, gritted my teeth and prepared to read through what I assumed would be a standard script to a fighting game; some ham-fisted dialogue, followed by some flaky reason to want to take out the opponents ribs one at a time.

“And then I started reading it – and I read the entire thing in one sitting – and then I grinned. This really is the most ambitious script I’ve ever seen from a fighting game, and the NetherRealm guys have pulled it off.”

Taylor said he’d been expecting to struggle to make the game’s prequel comic series interesting given the dictates of NetherRealm’s fiction, but instead found himself wondering how to complement it.

“How do I too find that perfect balance between emotional, epic storytelling and sudden, irreparable spine removal?” he asked.

The prequel comic series charts the fall of the DC universe from a utopia like modern day to the bleak future of the game itself, which pits former allies against each other. It will release in ten page batches every Tuesday through DC’s digital channels as well as in monthly editions collecting three chapters. Print editions are expected, including the first six chapters as part of the game’s collector’s edition.

Injustice: Gods Among Us is expected on PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 in April.

    Not suprised. Netherealm did awesome work on the Mortal Kombat story mode and that re-wrote 3 games at once!

    Is there enough Charecters in this though?

    From what I remember, MK had a pretty big roster which helped flesh the story out?

    @1: Very True, Netherealm did an amazing job with MK9 Story, actually the reason why I love MK in general is the story, unlike all the other fighting games with shitty stories, in MK you can make/have a very solid story, hence why I loved Konquest mode, and in MK9 they made a freakin epic story, loved every moment of it.

    Though the last fight was so frustrating.

    While MK9′s story was a real treat for fans, MK vs DC had such a problematic one that almost ruined for both comic fans and fighting game fans so… I’m still gonna be cautious about story.

    The gameplay looks fun though.
