DmC: Devil May Cry reviews are go, get all the scores here

DmC: Devil May Cry reviews were always going to be interesting, given the anguish surrounding Dante’s appearance, the game’s combat and so on. But we don’t have to second-guess the scores any longer. Get them after the cut.

If you have a score you want us to add, just drop a link into the comments below.

I just can’t wait for the people who decry this for “8.9″ as not good enough of a score

@48

I don’t know anybody that played FFXIII to the end that didn’t enjoy it a great deal. On the one hand that figures, since you’re hardly likely to play it to the end if you’re hating it, but on the other, it also means that those who gave it the most time got a lot out of it, me included. I really loved FFXIII. Completed it twice and did a shedload of endgame content. Not going to make excuses for that. Good game.

@50

“I’ve played the first four, and I wouldn’t play them again now.”

??? It’s a new take on an aged franchise. New perspectives can surprise you.

“Name me one reason why I should play a single player game over a multiplayer one.”

Because developers are becoming insanely good at coming up with exciting, emotive and thrilling scripted events that can only exist in a single player context. Plus, single player games can tell superb stories.

Actually baffled by what you said btw. Mad.

@50

Your prejudice for all single-player games then should have been stated as such. That’s not what you said, so stop back-pedalling. You’re free to hate SP games, but don’t call something boring and dated just because you have other tastes. It’s disrespectful to the people who come here to find out whether it’s good or not for them. People who enjoy this sort of game. People like me.

@54 Back-peddling, being disrespectful and insulting everyone as inferior human beings because they have different tastes is kinda his schtick.

Guy has some serious personal issues. His mommy probably didn’t hug him enough as a child or something.

The only way i could see someone enjoying it, is if it was the 1′st FF they played.

If yet another game where you get ranks based on how you juggle AI controlled foes whose sole purpose is to assist you in doing that turns people on then okay I guess.

I really don’t know why I would want to play scripted events when I can watch a movie with real actors instead. Baffling I suppose.

#54

You missed my point.. I was expecting you to give reasons along the lines of storyline and scripted scenes but it was done already.

It’s not disrespectful in the slightest. Bayonetta is funny thus it gets my money. this game isn’t.

The gameplay layer of FFXIII is solid enough.

It’s the entire framework surrounding the story, characters, lore and progression that is an utter disaster.

Of course the resident neurotic is hard at work to help me derail the thread..

It’s amazing isn’t it how his sole purpose here is exactly that. What would he do if it wasn’t for anyone not buying into anything posted.

Knee jerk reactions, shallow generic copy paste analysis and bs disguised as independent views. Some heavy issues right there.

@58

I would strongly disagree with that. you walk down a corridor and press x in battles to win.

#61

Ireland Michael
07/01/13, 2:41 pm

@60 If that was the entirity of your strategy in FFXIII, 90% of the battles would have slaughtered you, and you wouldn’t have passed the any of the boss battles past the first few hours.

Now, FFVII, there was a “Press X to win” Final Fantasy.

So now ALL SP games are fair game for Da Man. They’re all built with the sole purpose of being ‘beaten’, so therefore they must all inherently be shallow and pointless.

If you were a professional MP gamer then I would allow you some respect, but you’re not. You’re just a bitter, cynical nerd, who hates 90% of games made this decade, yet spends a LOT of time writing gibberish posts online telling us all how shit everything is while we try to actually discuss things in an adult fashion. Cos we, you know, like these things.

You don’t need any help derailing threads. You are that guy.

And again… judging a full game based only on a demo and some videos online. That’s your second logic fail of the day DM – one more and you’re in danger of becoming a potato.

@Michael, I mean, there is a LOT of X-pressing in XIII, and XIII-2… but it’s like you said, people seem to forget just how much of that there was in VII (VIII, & IX too in honesty). Nostalgia has taken over.

Anyway… back to this DMC tirade -_-

#65

Da Man

Cool story, brah. Err, first of I don’t like something which tries to be challenging this way. And yes that’s precisely the reason why they’re shallow and pointless, which sales prove a lot. Customers are getting away from pseudo challenges and play multiplayer instead.

Also, no I’m not a pro-gamer in the slightest. I have a job, which is why I don’t hate Apple and Justin Bieber with Lady Gaga ;)

Also I never said half as much of what a psychotic, hypersensitive mind of yours painted right there.

Ironically, our independent mind right there would fit the description just fine.

@64 VIII only suffered that problem if you were willing to draw spells for hours (ugh, what a tedious mechanic). Most of us did though, so it became the case pretty much by default.

FFIX definitely didn’t have that issue, due to the class specific characters. Good luck winning a fight just by pressing X with Vivi, Eiko, Quina or Dagger in your party.

FFX? Yes, but only in the end game. For the main story progression, every mob had specific weaknesses that only certain characters could handle.

FFXII… you didn’t even have to press X. =P

@66 Nice back peddling.

Without constant split second paradigm shifting and taking an active role in the process, many of the later encounters were completely impassable, especially the end game.

More generic copy paste denial.

He’s too independent to realize he’s wrong.

FFIX definitely didn’t have that issue though, thanks to its class specific character

@69 – I may have generalized a bit too much then. You’re absolutely correct RE VIII & IX.

@77 we can only dream of being able to comprehend your level of humour DM!

Seriously though, this is my last post of the day. It’s been great. Let’s see if you’ve learnt anything here today…

A simple question -

Assuming I play ALL sorts of games. Every genre. I’ve tried every franchise. I’ve done it all. I play games at least an hour a day (you know, to relax and entertain myself), whilst holding none favourite over the other. They’re all great.

Now, using the English language, how could one describe the relationship I have with videogames?

#81

Ireland Michael
07/01/13, 3:30 pm

@78 So do I. Just for everything besides the main gameplay.

It’s a solid and decently strategy intensive battle system, but if the characters are utterly nauseating and the story is a pile of crap… well…

FFXIII is a case study in bad storytelling, even more so than Metal Gear Solid.

Re: DmC.

I enjoyed the demo. I think the game is flashy, enjoyable and funny.

But…

I do know for a fact that some mechanics in the game as it currently stands are completely broken – jump cancelling is especially bad. If you can infinitely spamjumpslash an enemy into submission, there’s an inherent problem with the design. They *will* have to patch that for the full release.

I think it’ll still be fun, but there are niggles with the system that have to be fixed. Pretending they don’t exist is naive, no matter what else the game gets right.

My humor isn’t really rocket science to decipher it, but then it’s not really aimed at deprived, socially and professionally unsuccessful nerds who quote the same videogames they criticized a post back..

I did improve my spoken Engrish. you only need to see that thread with the i.hate.disagrees to figure it went from blatantly pathetic to above mediocre (well probably mediocre compared to residents of Uk)

As for your question, you are both jaded and cynical (and a nerd) which is the whole reason you like anime and japanese mind fakery (you *are* the target audience, aside from the teens), so why talk theoretically? Anyway, that would be quite an enthusiast.
