League of Legends championship Season 3: Riot Games detail latest contest

League of Legends developer Riot Games has announced details of its third championship season, marking the start of another serious eSports push for the immensely popular MOBA title.

Over on the League of Legends forum, the developer posted an overview of League of Legends Championship Series season 3 - as it's formally called - and offered a breakdown of competitors, qualifiers and finals.

The first half of the season takes place between February 7th and April 20th, while the second half picks runs between June 1st to August 31st. The season will see eight American and eight European teams duel it out for the title of World Champion, as well as prize money at the end. The grand total will run into the millions, say Riot Games.

It's a lengthy post, but if you want to get all of the details before the tourney kicks off, check out the official event programme here.
