Pokemon X & Y: The Pokemon Company explains why they aren't hitting Wii U

Pokemon X & Y were announced for an October 3DS launch yesterday in a furore that made our site's traffic stats blow up - almost literally. If you missed the announcement, screens and trailer then go here first. The Pokemon Company has since explained why the game is coming to Nintendo's handheld, rather than Wii U.

Speaking with Game Informer, J.C. Smith - the director of consumer marketing for The Pokémon Company International - said, "I can’t speak to the specifics, but traditionally Game Freak has always loved the game to be on a portable device because of the communication, trading, and the experience of taking this adventure with you. That’s why they’ve always prioritized a portable version of the game first. They’ve always liked what you can do in the real world with that."

When asked why we hadn't seen a new Pokemon game for Wii U yet, Smith replied, "It comes down to what the creators want to do. Every time I’ve heard them talk about it, it’s been about the portable experience, taking the adventure with you, being able to share it with friends, communicate, trade, battle – really encouraging that interaction."
