Owlboy: PC version releasing in 2013, console port being considered

Wednesday, 9th January 2013 08:44 GMT By Dave Cook

Owlboy is a rather neat-looking 2D pixel art platformer form D-Pad studios. It gained some notoriety in the indie scene when its debut gameplay trailer launched in 2011 but the game was subsequently delayed. However, D-Pad Studios’ author Jo-Remi Madsen has revealed that the studio is now aiming at a 2013 release. If you like old-school titles or games like Braid and its indie brethren, then this is a game you should check out.

First, here’s the trailer in case you missed it:

Speaking with Gameplay.pl, Madsen said, in a translated interview that the studio wants to finish Owlboy for PC in 2013 – hopefully before Spring – and is currently in talks with Valve regarding a Steam release, although the talks with Valve are yet to be confirmed. Elsewhere, the team is keen to work on a console port but didn’t say which formats the team had its eye on.

If you want to keep track of Owlboy’s development you can check out the D-Pad Studios blog here.

What do you think? Does the game look good? Let us know below.

I find it pathetic that they are incapable of changing the youtube description since they obviously don’t actually have a demo on their website. And I was not sure about whether it’s really going to be a polished game or some half-assed indie effort based on especially the UI in the video.

But… having actually found the demo here and having played it, I gotta say… doesn’t look half-assed and instead seems like it could be a lot of fun. There are some issues with it (differentiation between foreground and background in the temple is a bitch) but maybe that’s why it’s not officially available any more.

@1 that’s cool, thanks for the demo link. I might try it too :)

The demo was released a long, long time ago. How is it that so few people know these things? I’m sure it’s somewhere on the site, too. And somewhere obvious at that. But yes, I played the demo of this and it was a sublime little platformer. I’m overjoyed to hear that I’ll be playing it in its final state some time soon!
