Major Blizzard port headed to Linux in 2013 - rumour

Blizzard has long shied away from creating Linux versions of its titles - reportedly due to players using Wine to emulate Windows as a workaround, but sources close to the matter have kickstarted a rumour that the studio is changing tact in 2013.

Phoronix has published a detailed report on Blizzard's relationship with Linux and its fan base, and has reported that a source within the company is billing 2013 as the year Blizzard releases its first Linux title.

The source stated that Blizzard will be using the release to test the waters with Linux, ad that he game will be unveiled in the Summer. It's also said to be a port of an existing title, developed internally - which stacks up against statements from the company that its developers have been playing around with Linux behind the scenes.

VG247 has been following Blizzard;s relationship with Linux closely. For one it has chosen not to ban Diablo 3 players using Wine to play the game, and has spoken out against Windows 8. It turns out Blizzard aren't fans of Microsoft's OS.

Check out the full report here and be the judge for yourself, but please do treat this as rumour for now.

Cheers GAF.
