Pikmin 3 to be more like first game, says Miyamoto

Pikmin 3 will be more like the original Gamecube title, rather than its ‘less-stressful’ sequel Pikmin 2, according to Shigeru Miyamoto. The developer has given some insight into the nature of his impending Wii U title in a new interview. Check out his quotes after the jump.

In an interview with Games Master, Miyamoto revealed that his team had a discussion about what they wanted to achieve in Pikmin 3, and which of the previous games they wanted to gravitate towards.

Said Miyamoto, “That’s actually something that all the staff members had to debate over when we were discussing what kind of direction we should take for Pikmin 3. First of all by looking at Pikmin 1 we noticed that it wasn’t a very easy game for people to play, and from time to time they had to feel some stress.

“Our main aim in Pikmin 2 was to get rid of any stress as much as possible, so that it would be very user-friendly. Well, I myself couldn’t agree with that direction perfectly. That kind of nature of Pikmin 1 was exactly what I wanted to reproduce and I was actually intentionally doing so, so that Pikmin 1 could be a strategic game.”

The approach was finalised by Miyamoto, who wanted to return to the basics of the original game and build up from there, “When we started creating Pikmin 3 I gathered the main members who worked on Pikmin 2 and talked about how I thought it was important to get back to the basics of Pikmin 1.

“Or I should say that half of my job at that time wasn’t just to talk, but rather to persuade them to understand what I intended to do and to agree to my idea.”

What’s your take on Miyamoto returning to the series roots in Pikmin 3? Let us know below.

That’s kinda weird for me, ’cause I thought that 2 was much more “stressful”. Going down underground and surviving those missions was sometimes reminiscent of Dark Souls…

The underground sections took you away from the day and night time limit, also I think the 2nd game didn’t have a number of days limit?

I know what you mean though, the caves were tiresome as the environments weren’t as nice and you didn’t know how many levels there would be.

Both awesome games and the third one should be great from what I’ve seen so far. Shame I don’t I cant justify buying the wii-u for just one game.
