DotA 2: 'The Greeviling' update ushers in a PvE Christmas

DotA 2's winter update was rumoured to add a new Frostivus mode into the mix, but Valve has announced that the Frostivus celebrations are now officially cancelled, thanks to a sudden infestation of Greevils. Instead, 'The Greeviling' will see players battering the tiny tykes in return for gifts, and to drive them out of the land once and for all. See the trailer and get the update details after the jump.

Over on the DotA 2 blog, Valve has posted up a rather brilliant entry that reads, "Misery piled on misery! As the cold closed in, how we looked forward to Frostivus. Instead we get The Greeviling! The shops have been plundered, our gifts ripped open, our precious items scattered through the woods by a dire tide of Greevils!

"What caused this swarming chaos? Who hatched all those Greevil eggs? Who can we blame for burying us in this horde of mischievous imps? What's that you say? It's our own damn fault?"

The update will see players battling Greevils to snatch back stolen presents, and should they need assistance in the field, they can blow their whistle to summon their own domesticated Greevil as back up.

Win a present back and someone else will receive it - this is supposed to be the season of giving after all - and who knows? Maybe you'll end up receiving something nice from another player?

If you still need your own Greevil, Valve has reminded players that it is still selling eggs on its store.
