THQ considering Linux support in wake of Humble Bundle

THQ is looking into developing for the Linux community, thanks to its partnership with the Humble Bundle crew.

Responding to a question on Twitter, THQ president Jason Rubin said the publisher will consider releasing games for the oft-overlooked operating system.

"Got the Linux message loud and clear via HumbleBundle feedback. Evaluating cost/benefit as we speak," he said.

THQ's Humble Bundle was seem by some critics as a dramatic deviation from the initiative's usual cross-platform, DRM-free, independent developer focus, but the pay-what-you-want deal pulled in over $5 million, at an average price of $5.76, which was given a serious boost by over $12,000 in donations from THQ executives.

The publisher is going through some hard times, having delayed a number of games, leaving it with few bankable revenue channels until the shine has worn off 2013 and debts to pay. The Bundle may have brought in some much-needed cash - although purchasers had the option to deny any revenue to THQ if they wished - and certainly inspired shareholders to believe once more.

THQ's 2013 slate includes Metro: Last Light, South Park: The Stick of Truth and Company of Heroes 2.
