Cliff Bleszinski “gestating slowly” on new IP codenamed Silverstreak

Cliff Bleszinski has told Xplay he’s currently “gestating” a new IP which he has codenamed Silverstreak.

“My first Transformer was Bluestreak – which was later changed to Silverstreak or something like that – which is the codename of the new IP I’m gestating on slowly,” he said via StickSkills.

“I don’t want the chainsaw gun to be my legacy. Whenever someone puts together a ‘Top 50 Weapons in Video Games’ there’s like the Halo sword, the Lancer, like it’s there with everything else, like Doom BFG and that’s really flattering, but a lot of these kids who have only been playing games for the last however many years, they think that’s the only thing I ever did.

“They forget about Jazz Jackrabbit, Unreal Tournament that I worked on, things like Bulletstorm, a little bit on Shadow Complex and things like that. Moving forward I would like to work on something new and fresh and kinda redefine my legacy.”

Bleszinski announced his departure from Epic Games back in October.

I would love for Cliffy B to prove that he’s more auteur than dudebro, so I look forward to seeing what he comes up with next. I sincerely hope it has both range and depth.

Great news, I didn’t have the chance to play Gears, so I hope his next ‘Legacy’ comes to PS3/PS4 as well, so I can experience it, I hope it is something cool and great, long and deep, maybe survival horror starting a Lead Female character, or a Hack n Slash game in an open world with a bit of horror like monster hunting or something.

I remember watching a video where Mark Rein told the interviewer behind the camera that Cliff is a “Console” guy, and I thought that really odd considering all his previous PC games. Cliff’s face when Mark said that was of surprise, and a bit of disdain. He probably didn’t want to make Gears/unreal games the rest of his life and I understand that.

I hope he doesn’t do what Warren Spector did though, and release a meh console platformer in memory of Jazz. IF he does release a platformer, he would need to knock it out of the park to get the credit he would deserve.
I’d actually love to see an awesome platformer with RPG like elements from him.
