S.T.A.L.K.E.R. game adaptation rights acquired by bitComposer

Wednesday, 12th December 2012 13:55 GMT By Stephany Nunneley

bitComposer Entertainment AG has acquired the rights for future adaptations of the S.T.A.L.K.E.R. brand from Boris Natanovich Strygatsky, according to a press release on the firm’s official site.

The company has acquired the rights only for games based on S.T.A.L.K.E.R., as all other rights remain with Boris Natanovich Strugatsky’s brothers, as the author passed away in November of this year.

“The acquisition of the S.T.AL.K.E.R. license serves as an important cornerstone for the further international orientation of bitComposer Entertainment AG,” says Stefan Weyl, member of the bitComposer Entertainment AG executive board.

“For us, this brand represents a bridge to an important segment of triple-A products and a milestone in the history of the company. We would like to express our gratitude to Boris Natanovich Strygatsky.”

“S.T.A.L.K.E.R. is a reputable brand with a long history of success. To date, the series has sold many millions of units worldwide,” says Wolfgang Duhr, member of the bitComposer Entertainment AG executive board. “Naturally, we’d like to tap into the success of this series, and we see a great deal of potential for the future.”

Further details will be released shortly.

S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Call of Pripyat was published by bitComposer.

Thanks, RPS.

Could we get someone like Crytek on it, or maybe DICE? Those are competent developers.

@1, Lol no. These are great developers but they won’t make something special as S.T.A.L.K.E.R. . It should be a Ukrainian or Russian dev only like 4A Games or guys that make Survarium.
Crytek Kiev is hard at work for Warface so…

    @2, Publisher for sure.

@4: Fuck no. As much as i love 4A Games, they have a very small team, i doubt they will be able to deliver a game that has such huge environments.

Which is why i mentioned Crytek and DICE, they both have an engine that properly delivers huge open environments and they are experienced with it. The only thing that could go wrong is the tone of the game itself. Which for me is very important, but not as important as proper gameplay and a good art-direction.

But Crytek could get it right, part of germany was soviet after all, some of the people working there grew up with Nu Pagadi and Leopold! Cartoons.

And DICE could also get it right, i mean they didn’t force their russian characters to speak in english.

It think it would be ignorant to think that only former soviets could get a game like this right. Proper research and dedication is all you need.

But really? You want the guys who did STALKER to do STALKER 2? I don’t know about you, but i want the game to come out in this century.

A combination would be cool, wouldn’t it? 4A with CryEngine.

Whoever does it: Research and dedication. All of them need to watch the movie Stalker.

God, that movie is so good.

Stalker was indeed in 6 or 7 years of development but addons were much faster. I think it really depends on the team.

these guys can do that stuff. They are ex-Stalker devs.
I’m not sure about DICE, they are EA and Crytek… Well, maybe.

Guys that make Survarium can do the job. I think…

@8: Yeah, but STALKER 2 was, again, in development for a very lengthy time, before it was cancelled.

4A Games could pull it off, but since they have such a small team, it could take up to 5 years. I don’t want to wait that long for a new Stalker game.

And although the stalker games had high res and all that, their models, art-direction and gameplay have been pretty bad to be honest. The fact that the standalone addons never even tried to produce better models just shows you how lazy they were.

I just hope whoever picks it up, make right by the S.T.A.L.K.E.R franchise. I wish it finds its way to CD Project.

I don’t care if it takes 5 years or 10 years, I want the RIGHT Stalker 2 or none at all. I don’t think it’s a good attitude to accept a compromise for the sake of a speedy delivery, the series had a clear artistic direction and if subsequent developers can’t adhere to that then they need to leave it alone. Western FPS developers just don’t have the artistic talent to deliver Stalker 2, I actually baulk at the idea of Crytek or DICE developing it since it’d probably turn into the usual pushing forward between cut-scenes dreck they usually push out. If we’re talking western devs, I’d rather have someone with some actual writing talent who can do the story justice like Obsidian, even if they don’t have much experience with FPS.
