PS All-Stars: Battle Royale 2 development suggested by job ads – report

Wednesday, 12th December 2012 11:14 GMT By Dave Cook

PlayStation All-Stars: Battle Royale could be getting the sequel treatment already, according to new job postings by developer SuperBot Entertainment. Check it out below.

Spotted by NeoGAF forumite Nirolak, the job postings appeared on Gamasutra, and call for an Art Director and a Game Designer.

The art director post reads, “A project such as PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale, which by definition brings together elements ranging from an incredibly wide range of artistic styles, requires a strong and unifying vision to present a cohesive and polished product.

“The Art Director is responsible for defining this vision, guiding the creation of art assets from concept through completion while helping develop new technology to facilitate this and maintain proper performance.”

This could be a sequel to SuperBot’s fighter, or it could be a sequel to another Sony IP. PlayStation All-Stars: Battle Royale saw poor chart performance when it launched, entering the UK top 40 at 38th place and seeing a mixed critical reaction, so talk of a sequel this early may be premature.

What do you think? Let us know below.

The game has more or less horribly flopped.

Start work on a follow up straight away. hhhmmmmm.

@1 They actually have a reason, it’s one of those games that got incredibly high grades but players wouldn’t buy for many reasons (other games being released, lack of originality) but if this time around they fix all the problems they will get a best-seller

That game flopped, no one cares, Sony’s characters are not that legendary compared to Nintendo and game just sucks. There is no reason to make a sequel really.

Although, they could make a fantastic new fighting game on it’s own like Tekken, Street Fighter or whatever in Next Gen for example.
but it’s Sony, they hate money so… It’s logical that they are going to make a sequel and then forget about it.

    “high grades”

    Like 76 on metacritic?

MUCH more horribly. The launch was a disaster.

What incredibly high grades? It got a lot of 7s and 8s. They are good scores but not really high. This game was supposed to challenge Super Smash Bros. If Sony wants this to succeed, they need to:

    A. Do some actual MARKETING and run a proper ad campaign. A couple of nice but limited live action vids don’t cut it.
    B. Go WILD with the idea. Look at Sonic All-Star Racing 2 / Transformed, learn from it and go even farther.

Sony was happy with sales, so it definitely didn’t flopped. If it would have flopped, then suprebot would have been dissolved by sony.
And its their first game, I am pretty confident it will cross 1 million mark in a few months.

Can’t wait, a bunch of my friends and I love the game. Not to competitive not to button mashy just right in the middle. As long as they add a engaging story/adventure mode next time im game for a sequel.

honestly do people really judge profitability based on how many units it sold? do you guys know what the budget was and what it needed to sell to break even? there are tons of ways to make money. they have dlc coming and maybe some fan favorite characters that are released for a price. it hasn’t launched in japan. what if it launches with lighting, cloud, snake and some other famous japanese character end of january. heck they could even give the core game for free in 6 months and then charge people for the characters they want and make money. all we know is sony has said they are happy with the sales and they are in line with expectation and obviously this could be pr talk but lets not say flow until there is evidence they lost money. sony have closed quite a few studios recently so this news should say that they see potential and can make money through this. the game is fun but a lot of things need to be improved so the sequel could be something bigger. don’t say it flopped hard just based on initial unit sales. it released in a busy month with high profile titles.

There’s just not a great deal of affection towards 95% of the roster in this game. This is why it flopped.

It may have entered at 38th in the charts but like people say it doesn’t take digital sales into account, it released on the ps store at £40 when most new games on the store release at £50/£60. So many people would have just bought it from the store (including myself) as it’s the same price as it is at retail.

I’m enjoying the game, but its lacking a few characters (crash, spyro, lara croft, cloud/lightning and I wouldn’t mind seeing rayman :D)

Truth be told it only flopped with a few people. I love the roster and the characters on it. Heihachi is a big deal for me since I am a tekken fanatic. I do have a special place for drake as well and enjoy his adventures. Cole is also another character I actually enjoy playing with(Infamous 2 only really because I think the first was crap).

I never cared for sly/jak/sir daniel/sackboy but after this game I’m interested in 3 outta the for(sorry sac thing still no love). I don’t need a nostalgia list I honestly just need a competent story/adventure in the game. The story is just a big tutorial for game modes with a rival battle. That’s to much like smash story elements. NExt time they should make a world that you can explore and fight through in an action/rpg type of way.

I can’t comment on the games quality, I didn’t play it. I can tell you that it didn’t really appeal to me. Mostly because of the roster. I think had Sony done a game like this mid/late PSx and included the Spyros, Crashes, etc I would have been far more interested.

I have been Classes started back up too. Between this internship and class I have been pretty busy. I have seen a lot of the stuff being said around here though. All I could do was shake my head and just

If you want to hit me up though you can add me to PSN Lexreborn2. I have to delete someone though I reached my 100 mark so if you want to add me I will have made room in the next 4 hours when I’m done here at work.
