Splinter Cell film to come courtesy of New Regency

Ubisoft and New Regency have signed a second adaptation agreement, this time for Splinter Cell.

Variety reports New Regency will be working closely with Jean-Julien Baronnet, CEO of Ubisoft Motion Pictures, a division founded to protect the French publisher's licenses and produce in-house short films and the Raving Rabbids TV series.

"For Ubisoft Motion Pictures, creative control is key and New Regency shares our commitment to respecting the creative freedom of our team," Baronnet said.

"Their ability to produce both blockbusters and intriguing indie hits is an ideal fit for the Splinter Cell franchise."

Ubisoft was said to have been flirting with Warner and Paramount as well, but eventually went with its established partner; New Regency is also behind the Assassin's Creed movie.

As previously reported, Tom Hardy will star in Splinter Cell, which is being written by Eric Warren Singer.
