ZeptoLab keen to be more than Cut the Rope

I have no idea what to call this company besides "Cut the Rope developer ZeptoLab" which pretty much sums up CEO Misha Lyalin's problem.

Speaking to GamesIndustry, the Russian executive said the company "cannot always be known as makers of Cut the Rope" and needs to "cultivate" ZeptoLab as a a brand by releasing new games.

That said, the team will continue to produce, support and license the phenomenally popular Cut the Rope; Sony Pictures has just purchased the rights to a live action series based on the property, for goodness' sake.

ZeptoLab has just released a new title called Pudding Monsters, and unlike Cut the Rope, which was published by Chillingo, it's done it on its own - and is quite prepared for another mega hit should it occur.

"If we manage to create a game that everybody will love just like Cut the Rope, well, great, and then we can build another brand outlet," Lyalin said.

"Certainly, when we have attempts like that, we will know some of the pitfalls and some of the issues to solve because we now have a lot more experience because we've gone through merchandizing, licensing, setting up that business and it's going well and it's growing like crazy."
