Mortal Kombat: Legacy renewed for a second season

Mortal Kombat: Legacy will return next year with a second season of live-action stories based on NetherRealm’s gory fighter.

The series is in production now and will be exclusive to Machinima, but will debut during the Streamy Awards on February 17 2013.

Liu Kang and Ermac are set to join the show this season, and there have been a few casting changes. Casper Van Dien of Starship Troopers will play Johnny Cage, taking over from Matt Mullins. Johnson Phan isn’t on board this time, but in a bit of a coup, Shang Tsung will now be played by Cary-Hiroyuki Tagawa, who lent his talents to the same character in the 1995 Paul W. S. Andersen movie.

Mortal Kombat: Legacy totted up 60 million views during its first season. Director Kevin Tancharoen has promised the second season will deliver “added visual effects and storylines that dive deeper into our warriors” – as well as visiting the tournament itself.
