Wii U: 40,000 consoles sold over UK launch weekend - report

Wii U launched in the UK on Friday, and its launch software line up has failed to set the UK charts alight. Sources claim that Nintendo sold 40,000 consoles during the consoles first 48 hours on sale. See the report below.

MCV writes that retail sources have placed Nintendo's console sales total at around the 40,000 mark, which is reportedly a sell-out on the high street (physical stores, not counting online stores).

Sources also suggest that stores are seeing re-stock from Nintendo, but in small quantities, with a full resupply expected in the New Year.

Treat MCV's reportage as rumour for now, as the site admits the figure has been reached by piecing together reports from its sources, but a complete sell-out would be no surprise, given the furore over the original Wii when it launched, and given its strong sales in the US.

We've asked Nintendo for comment.
