Wii Mini dated by retailer, first image released

They should have called it the Wini.

Ok, is it just me or is releasing another console with “Wii Something” in its name so close to Wii U launch a really risky move? This feels like iPad Mini story to me.

Oh, wow. I wasn’t even thinking about that but it is a really possibility. I mean imagine if some parents get Wii Mini along with some Wii U games for their kids.

Instead of Wii mini, they should call it the Wii without the U, just to avoid confussions like the funny previous ones mentioned

Didn’t hurt the PS2 slim when PS3 launched. I don’t see the problem?

With a low price point it will sell millions, smart move from Nintendo. The PS2 is still selling good around the world.

Nintendo is in a position where the Wii is already pretty damn small and they have just launched the WiiU – where there is already some confusion about what it is and whether it’s just an add-on for the Wii or not. That’s why this is a bad idea now. It muddies the waters further when they need clarifying.

PS3/PS2 slim. PS2 was bulky and PS2 slim was an obvious form factor update. PS3 was also seen as a clear and separate console to the PS2.

If they wanted to do this they should have done it much earlier in the year or later next year, well clear of the WiiU launch window.

Shoulda called it “Mini Wii” with a picture of Iwata holding his pinky finger sideways in his mouth on the box*.

Really? I don’t see any problem with Nintendo not wanting to put their best seller to sleep. It’s called sound business sense, gentlemen. The PlayStation 2 still sells to this day and is aimed (liked this) as a budget games console, if parents mistake a sub-£100 console for the latest £299 Wii U then they deserve to deal with any Xmas fallout or maybe kids should learn to not be so ungrateful.

Making a console smaller just comes with making the chipset smaller and thus cheaper to produce hence why this budget model exists the last line PS2 9000 series was really, really light because the tech was sooooo cheap by 2009.

It wouldn’t surprise me if the 360 and PS3 are kept around long after the successors come out so I’d be interested to see if the same forum critics found here are also passing judgement when that time comes too.

Considering the amount of confusion surrounding the Wii U up to this point, releasing another “new Wii” seems like a pretty ballsy/stupid move on Nintendos part. Feels like they should’ve waited another six months.
