New Super Mario Bros. 2 DLC celebrates 300 billion coin tally

A surprise Nintendo Direct released this afternoon, with good news for fans of New Super Mario Bros. 2.

Nintendo president Satoru Iwata's Mii presented the short communication, which began with a startling statistic: New Super Mario Bros. 2 players worldwide have collected over 300 billion coins since the 3DS title's launch in Japan at the end of July.

To celebrate, a DLC pack has been released for Japanese users - the Golden Classic Course Pack. The pack will be free from today until January 31 2013, and will cost ¥200 thereafter.

It features a number of classic courses, and Nintendo chose the included levels by consulting fan responses on surveys. The classic courses are Round 1 from the original Mario Bros.; 1-1, 1-2, and 1-4 from Super Mario Bros.; 1-1 and 1-5 from Super Mario Bros. 3. The pack has not been announced for the west as yet.

The Japanese-language presentation is embedded below.
