MLG to host League of Legends Championship Series qualifier

Two of the largest eSports organisations have teamed up to prepare for the next season of the League of Legends Championship Series.

Major League Gaming will play host to an online qualifying tournament for the third season leading up to Riot's own qualifier.

The single elimination tournament will end with the selection of two top teams, which will score all expenses paid trips to compete at Riot’s League of Legends Championship Series: Season Three qualifier in Los Angeles from January 9-13. The qualifier will see 14 teams compete for just five available North American slots in Season Three.

North American teams that did not attend 2012 regionals are eligible to register from today, with room for up to 32 crews. Registration will close on Sunday, December 2 at 5:00PM ET. Players must be 17 years of age by February 8 2013 in order to be eligible.

If you're not of age, available or particularly skilled you can just tune into MLG instead at 8:00PM ET:

  • Thursday, December 6 - RQ Ro8 #1
  • Monday, December 10 - RQ Ro8 #2
  • Thursday, December 13 - RQ Ro8 #3
  • Friday, December 14 - RQ Ro8 #4
  • Monday, December 17 - RQ Ro4 #1 - Winner Qualifies for LA
  • Thursday, December 20 - RQ Ro4 #2 - Winner Qualifies for LA

Riot's League of Legends Championship Series regularly boasts the largest prize pool of any eSports league in its official seasons, while MLG is one of the largest and most-viewed US eSports destinations.
