Syberia 3 inbound from original series writer

Syberia writer Benoît Sokal is back on board for a third entry in the much-lauded adventure series.

Series developer Microïds announced the sequel on Facebook, revealing a deal between Sokal and French publisher Anuman Interactive.

The new adventure is due for multiplatform release in 2014 or 2015, with Microïds founder Elliot Grassiano leading the fledgling project.

Anuman acquired Microïds over three years ago, and has established a new label devoted to the studio's output. The publishers sees the green lighting of Syberia 3 as "yet another step forward in its determination to become one of the main international names in adventure games"

"After two long years of waiting for the fans, with Benoit writing the script and Elliot joining our team, Syberia has truly entered its production phase," Anuman general manager Stéphane Longeard said in a statement.

"With its incredible feel and the sheer quality of the game, Syberia has carved out a special place for itself in gamers’ hearts. They are more than ever expecting the next instalment. Today, fans of the series and adventure games enthusiasts have at last been rewarded for the patience."

"I’m very pleased to be creating another Kate Walker adventure and working with Anuman Interactive’s teams on the project. I created the first two episodes of Syberia with Elliot, so I’m also really happy to be able to create this new one with him and illustrate the evolution of Anuman as a significant player in the adventure games industry," Sokal said.

Syberia released in 2002 and was followed by a sequel in 2004. Both games share a setting with Amerzone, another Sokal title. All three are cult favourites.
