BioShock: Infinite definitely won’t have multiplayer – Levine

BioShock: Infinite will not have a multiplayer mode, Irrational Games boss Ken Levine has confirmed.

Answering queries on Twitter, Levine issued a clear “no multi”.

No multiplayer mode had ever been officially announced for Irrational’s new shooter, but as multiplayer is often seen as essential to a triple-A release, and BioShock 2 featured several modes, rumours of an online component seem quite credible.

In May, whispers said BioShock: Infinite’s delay out of 2012 to February 2013 was related to ongoing issues with networking for its multiplayer modes. By August, it was said that multiplayer had been shelved completely.

BioShock: infinite is expected on PC, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360.

Thanks, EvilAvatar.

thank goodness. We don’t need no stinkin’ multiplayer in every game. Most is bunch of tacked on waste of money anyway.

I can look forward to this now, knowing that it wont have wasted any dev time on a forced MP mode. (Well except for the modes they dropped of course. ;D)
I love the work Irrational Games has put out over the years mainly because they tend to focus on one thing and make that thing truly awesome, rather than spreading themselves too thin. In all honesty I was actually going to avoid this had it forced in a MP component. Now that I know for certain theyre not doing that, I feel a lot more assured that it will be a quality piece of work just like the original BioShock.

YYYYYEEEEESSSSSSSSSSSSS!!!
But I do hope people support them by buying new games, not used or pirated, since it also means no online pass and no way for devs to monetise used sales.

@4 Skyrim didn’t have multiplayer… If a game is good, it sells.

Skyrim was not a good game.

the reason it sells:

1) Marketing campaign
2) Brand
3) Open-world RPG from a first person view

in the end it was a casual-pretty piece of empty schlock.

Skyrim is also a massive game with hundreds of hours worth of content. How big and how long is Infinite going to be? People take issue with games that only offer 6 to 10 hours worth of gameplay before the only extra time they can squeeze out of it is starting the campaign over.

Like it or not, MP adds extra life to a game.

most of the time it adds a shitload of brain cripples that dont get the goals of the mode they are playing and hence ranting you down over the mic for following the instructions.

I think Infinite could’ve had some decent multiplayer for it if done right, but I also don’t think the Bioshock universe never really needed multiplayer to give it legs, as it was an already masterfully crafted world. Though also, in hearing this, I kinda can’t help but wonder how much longer can a game like this last in the AAA market, namingly, a strictly single-player game? Because looking back recently, I’m seeing fewer and fewer games like this at retail, and it’s a little sad, though it does make me hopeful that with the increase in digital distribution, more experiences like this are created, and that games with great single-player stop getting tacked-on MP.

What’s that, #6, insane socially deprived nerd caught in an infinite loop of self tricked bs as usual? Don’t let the outside reality get to you, champ.

Anyway, Bioshock Infinite definetely won’t sell that many copies.
