GRID 2 achievements list to be designed by trophy hounds

Codemasters has joined forces with the team behind and to design the achievements list for GRID 2.

The design process will be documented on both sites.

EIC Dan Webb described the arrangement as his “biggest personal goal” and a chance to prove the team’s mettle after years of criticising developer-designed achievements lists.

Codemasters executive producer Clive Moody said the two sites are recognised as the “go to” destinations for achievement information.

“Their extensive knowledge coupled with our studio talent will make for a uniquely crafted list with insight from the experts, offering gamers real challenge and reasons to chase every possible reward. It’s a new approach, but we think it will be a lot of fun and a great way to give player’s an insight into this increasingly important element of game design,” he said.

GRID 2 is due on PC, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 in northern summer.

I guess it’s cool that they’re talking to some experts about it, but you’d think that if they sat down, they could come up with some fun trophies/achievements for the game. Can’t remember the guy who said it, but the Golden Rule should be “Lead the player into fun gameplay” and “Don’t lead the player into boring gameplay”

I’m talking about the likes of New Vegas, where there were loads of stupid things you had to do to get certain trophies. Like take a certain amount of damage, a trophy where a good player would have to go out of their way to get mauled by Nightclaws. (Edit: Deathclaws, where the fuck did Nightclaw come from?)

Also, picking 50 pockets always seemed like a chore. Five would have been better, just enough to encourage you to try it. If you had a pick-pocketing system like in Amalur mind you, it would have been okay…

You should get achievements for completing the game, you shouldn’t have to go do random stuff like ”kill X amount of enemies with [Weapon] while having less than 10% health”.

Skyrim has a pretty nice set of achievements, at the end of the game you pretty much got all achievements, like it should be.

I’m generally not that interested in achievements/trophies, I get what ever ones I get through regular play and sometimes put a bit of effort into getting some of the skill based ones. But I really can’t be bothered with the grindy ones and ones that basically just need luck and I hate online trophies.
Like I said though I do like more skill based ones and I think all racing games should have a “Beat Zico” type of trophy, that is by far the most difficult trophy I have ever gotten and it felt so good when I finally got it! Too many trophies and achievements are just grind or luck based, no real sense of achievement in them.
