Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed DLC fan support sought
Sumo Digital has asked fans of Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed to get behind a campaign requesting DLC characters.
“I’ll set you a challenge. Without any policing from the SUMO or SEGA crew, if you can all agree on three characters by the first of December and prove there is sufficient interest of at least 1000 unique people per character, I will present the result to SEGA,” Sumo’s Steve Lycett told Sega forum users.
“I can’t promise anything will happen as a result, but since you’re starting it, let’s see if you can organise yourselves in the next few weeks to pull that off.”
The community responded by creating a forum thread to collect votes for popular characters; each character nominated so far has their own thread to collect vote posts, and Lycett has promised to check for duplicate votes before accepting the results.
Several character have already met Sumo Digital’s requirements; at the last official count, Sege Saturn mascot Segata Sanshiro had 2077 votes; vocaloid Hatsune Miku has 1801; and Shenmue’s Ryo Hazuki has 1699. Vectorman, Ristar and Bayonetta all have over 500 votes, too.
Sumo has stressed that a successful campaign won’t necessarily mean the characters will automatically be produced as DLC, especially in cases of third-party rights or licensing issues, but seems serious in gauging community demand before committing to any particular character.
Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed is out now on PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. it is a launch title for the Wii U, so it out no in the US and hits Europe on November 30. A 3DS and Vita version is expected in December.
