Shadowrun Returns due in May or June

Harebrained Schemes has a new anticipated release date for classic RPG revival Shadowrun returns.

In a new update for Kickstarter backers, Harebrained offered a new release window target.

“Right now, according to our estimates, we’re looking at May or June,” it said.

The RPG had been expected in January 2013, but was quietly pushed back a few months ago when Harebrained re-assessed its schedule following a major design change.

“It might’ve worked for the scope of the game we originally envisioned but as our ambitions grew, so did the time we needed to deliver,” the developer said.

“Plus, we made a big move from our original top down camera to an isometric point of view and that took serious R&D time.”

A second game based on the fantasy cyberpunk Shadowrun property is in the works – Shadowrun Online.

This is one of my most anticipated games.

Shadowrun Returns isn’t just a cash in on the classic name, like MS and FASA Interactive did in 2007, but a return to the series’ roots.

And I’m so glad they went with this instead of any alternate history nonsense. What we need these days is more creativity and cleverness in our entertainment, not more sterility. Far too much of what we call ‘fun’ these days could pass for actuary porn in how boring it is.

Less sterility, more crazy! And Shadowrun has always had pleasing amounts of crazy. Considering the names involved in this, too, I doubt very much that it’ll suck.
