Xbox TV device rumor resurfaces, to be unveiled in 2013

Rumors of an Xbox TV device have resurfaced, and sources close to the matter have stated the "always on" device will run on core Windows 8 components.

According to The Verge, the set-top box will be competing with Apple TV by offering causal gaming titles and "near-instant" access to TV and entertainment services.

The device is part of a two-SKU strategy at the company, offering a lower cost alternative to the planned next-gen console in development.

Meanwhile, The Verge was told that the core architecture for the next-Xbox will be scalable, allowing it to run other devices - possibly adding a phone which could run Xbox Live in full.

Microsoft's hardware line-up is to be unveiled next year, with a release scheduled just "ahead of the holiday shopping season."
