Far Cry 3 multiplayer has no dedicated servers, Ubisoft confirms

Monday, 19th November 2012 12:26 GMT By Dave Cook

Far Cry 3 multiplayer won’t come with dedicated server support, Ubisoft has confirmed.

PCGamesN reports that Ubisoft’s community manager MSV-Vextor confirmed the move on the publisher’s official forum, stating, “The online experience does not support dedicated servers.”

In recent Far Cry 3 news, Ubisoft released a new trailer that talks you through the dynamic world of the Rook Islands. It’s a dangerous place, we hear.

What about the dedicated server announcement? Annoying, or is it not that big a deal?

Can someone explain me the differences of dedicated-and-non servers?

Who cares, the multiplayer is going to be horrible. It’s a complete CoD clone with killstreaks and other retarded stuff. The Beta that was supposedly coming is also mysteriously nowhere to be seen.

I’m buying this for Singleplayer, the way it’s meant to be played.

Well, considering that in Far Cry 3 emphasis is mostly on the story (and co-op), it’s not a dealbreaker for me. Then again I don’t like the decision.

So you would like them to focus more on the multiplayer, and less on singleplayer? It would be better if they left out multiplayer and focused completely on singleplayer. Maybe the game would have launched months ago like it was supposed to.

Nobody said that, but there is no reason why people shouldn’t have dedicated servers.

CoD doesn’t even have it, why should this? Only FPS out there with dedicated servers is BF3.

^ CoD has dedicated servers on PC.

It’s usually the PC crowd who go into a frenzy over this issue, anyway.

^ “it’s ALWAYS the pc crowd who go into a frenzy over this” *fixed*

I wasn’t interested in the MP at all tbh, but if #3 is right in saying its a CoD clone, I may just check it out ;-)

@8 It was never much of an issue anyway. As far as I know though, MW2 and definitely MW3 had the players hosting the games themselves.

It kinda sucked in the beginning of MW2, and then it got better. MW3 has that annoying feature that’s meant to level out the lag, which actually just boosts it.

Either way, I’d much rather have a game I could be playing in 5 seconds and 3 clicks than one that makes me do paperwork in a serverbrowser just to get a match. Black Ops was a terrible experience on PC, in part because of that.

BLag Ops has a crappy PC port. There’s a reason it has a peak of 5821 in multiplayer on Steam today vs 9700+ in MW3 and 26000+ in MW3.

Dedicated server is a must if you want a fair match in any game, especially FPS, that has more then 4 players, except when it’s a casual play with friends. BF3 has a server browser, but you can just press the Quick Match button and be playing in seconds.

This is actually a good thing since Ubis servers are just horrible
