Wii U game pre-orders hit 1.2 million at GameStop, attach rate higher than Wii launch

Pre-orders for Wii U titles have hit 1.2 million, according to GameStop.

Speaking during a financial call to investors today, the firm’s president Tony Bartel name dropped ZombiU, Assassin’s Creed 3, Black Ops 2, Scribblenauts Unlimited and New Super Mario Bros. U as some of the titles customers have pre-ordered.

Bartel also reiterated it had sold out of its allotted 500,000 Wii U console reserves, which the firm announced back in September.

The retailer also noted the attach rate of Wii U was sitting at 2.4, which is more than double than Wii’s launch, according to GameStop.

Nintendo has predicted an attach rate of 4 for the fiscal year, which is a number third-party publishers look to when deciding whether to invest in developing for a console.

Anyone care to explain this “attach rate” thing in more detail?

Does it have anything to do with the number of games a system owner is expected to buy within a certain timeframe?

Just curious.

@1, it’s software sales per machine sold.

It’s not an “expected”, it’s a hard number based on hardware preorders against software preorders, so people are buying more games with their WiiU than they did with the Wii.

Well the launch line up for the WiiU is more solid than the wii was, so this was kind of expected, zombie U, scriblenauts, super mario, are great tittles, that i will be picking up for sure.

@2 Ah, that makes sense. I guess “expected” numbers would be pretty difficult to nail down without a crystal ball. Thanks.
