Major League Gaming viewership up 334% year-over-year

Major League Gaming has announced 11.7 million unique online viewers watched its eSports events during the 2012 season, which is up 334% year-over-year.

According to the figures, posted by Polygon, over 15 million hours of streamed online content were consumed during MLG's four pro-championships in 2012. The most popular events were the spring and fall tournaments.

"MLG's 334 percent growth in live online audience this year surpasses growth demonstrated by traditional sports," said MLG CEO Sundance DiGiovanni. "This is a testament to the mainstream demand for competitive gaming and power of live streaming."

During the 2011 season, 3.5 million unique viewers were clocked, and viewership over the last two years has grown exponentially by 636%.
