Well most reviews note that it’s more of the same and it’s starting to look dated. Reviews seem to be high for 2 reasons really: a massive package that will keep people entertained for a long time and a great amount of polish on content – both are good.

If anyone was expecting anything ground breaking new from the series, it really was their own fault.

I for one am tired of this genre and unless something fresh comes along, i’ll be passing on them all. Not played a game like this since BF3 and don’t think this game will get me back to play war shooters.

@15: I would like to take the opportunity to recommend Spec Ops – The Line to you. It’s a third person anti-war shooter. The very first of its kind. The gameplay won’t impress you and that’s intentional. It’s all about the story and its characters.

I really wish other sites would stop attending these “review events” and pressure mega publishers into sending proper review copies to them just like most normal games.

Having read a bunch of those reviews, I’d recommend the Giant Bomb and Videogamer write-ups. Particularly since they seem to contrast on whether the campaign is any good.

The multiplayer seems to be getting a lot of praise across the board.

@18 The Videogamer disclaimer mentions that the review event spanned two days. I’d find it quite intense finishing the campaign and playing huge chunks of the other modes in that kind of time.

Most of these games from big publishers get these very save “not perfect but well above average” scores like 8/10 or 4/5 to avoid the wrath of the publisher like with the infamous Kane and Lynch incident.

Why are none of the ones below 8/10 on Metacritic?

It’s starting to feel dated (oh wow really? It already did years ago…LMAO) and it’s more of the same. Yet some reviews give it a 9, just wow. It also gets away with things that any other shooter gets slammed for. Pathetic.

Words can’t describe how tired i am of this franchise. Next year we get MW4 and then no doubt BO3, it’s just sad. Used to be a big fan, and now i think i won’t even touch a CoD again. And it’s beyond me how so many people still buy it every year.

If you don’t like it, don’t play it.

I don’t care for it one way or another. It’s just not my kind of game. But I know plenty of people who will play it. That’s their choice and incentive. If they enjoy the experience? Kudos to them. Obviously there’s something in it that they find appealing. Acting like those who think that way are somehow inferior in mentality, to you to the point of being labelled as”pathetic”, is not only ragingly egotistical, but a far more juvenile and childish attitude than many of the Call of Duty haters claim the game’s typical players to have.

Yeah well, that wasn’t my intention. It’s just that i’m baffled is all. I consider it the same thing that developers would bring a Elder Scrolls every year, or a GTA game, or a new Mario every year, and so on. How do you not tire of that?

Got it on 360 (£6.00 for 5 days).

This will be easily enough to finish the Single Player and give zombies a whirl.

Im mostly looking forward to the 3D mode in single player, that was really fun in BLOPS 1.

I couldn’t care less about multiplayer ironically. Halo 4 is so polished, it’s going to take up most of my ‘online’ time!

@45 Some people will buy every Mario game ever made, and those are definitely released more than once a year.

To each their own. Personally I got tired of the New Super Mario Bros. formula after the first one. They don’t hold a candle to the depth and creativity of the original 2D titles.

I think the comment was aimed squarely at the complete dis-connect between review text and the score it receives at the end.

The Hitman review that I posted yesterday is a perfect example, its savaged in the text and he even goes onto warn people away from buying it, in what World does that equal 65%?

Theres loads of complaints about Blops 2 judging by the various reviews but the scores are the same as always, just to not upset the status-quo of metacritic.

8/10 “Its ok, you’ll buy it anyway”.
