Minecraft PC passes 8 million sales

Minecraft PC sales have surpassed the 8 million mark. That’s a lot of blocks, and a lot of money.

PCGamesN has reported on the sales stats, although exact figures have not been made available in the wild.

The initial alpha build launched in 2009 and quickly put creator Markus “Notch” Persson on the map. Word of mouth led to the notoriety of Persson’s studio Mojang and eventually spawned Xbox 360 and mobile versions. It has since become a cultural phenomenon worldwide.

Interviews with Notch are rare, but earlier this year the world was given a rare glimpse of Mojang’s studio when it was nominated for a Swedish award for one of the country’s best-looking offices. See the photos here:

PC Gaming is dead! Haven’t those eight million gamers heard? The sale of four million copies of COD across all platforms means it is a much bigger success. How could two million Xbox live users be wrong? They far out number the four million daily Steam users!

Maybe, just maybe *certain* developers will wake up and smell the coffee.

5: Well, it beats having to play it in the tiny sandbox the 360-version offers.
