LittleBigPlanet's Sackboy returns from (near) space

Sony Australia proved it is twice as badass as any other regional arm by sending LittleBigPlanet's Sackboy to 95,000 feet in a weather balloon.

I'm not entirely sure why this was done, but Sackboy was attached to a 30 foot meteorological balloon fitted with cameras, a wireless transmission system, and a GPS, then sent up as far as the balloon could travel before popping. The result was a series of stunning photos and videos.

Sackboy was launched from 50 km outside West Wyalong and rose at over 15 feet per second. The wind pushed him along at over 90 km per hour, and he landed in a wheat field more than 69 km from the launch site. His suit was designed by Facebook fan Tom Fox.

In related news, LittleBigPlanet karting arrives for PlayStation 3 next week.
