Army of Two Devil's Cartel: 'no competitive multiplayer', Visceral confirms

Developer Visceral Games has confirmed that Army of Two: The Devil's Cartel will not feature competitive multiplayer.

When asked by VG247's own Dave Cook about the upcoming shooter's multiplayer at a recent event, Visceral lead designer Julien Lamoureux said:

"There is no competitive multiplayer. When we took a step back and looked at what we were trying to achieve, we just figured, 'you know what? Let's just put our resources into what we're trying to do, which is a very intense co-op campaign experience. We didn't want to stretch our resources between competitive multiplayer and co-op. Whenever you start a project you have a finite amount of resources, so it's up to you what you want to put in place. For us it was just a logic choice, and we doubled down with the quality of the campaign, versus competitive."

The move marks a shift away from the past two Army of Two games, as both the original and Army of Two: The 40th Day featured a competitive multiplayer component.

In case you missed it earlier, Army of Two: The Devil's Cartel is out March 26, 2013 for Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3.
