    @1 no idea, but judging by past Rockstar titles, it could be consoles first then PC at a later date.

    I remember one Johnny Cullen being adamant and I mean ADAMANT that GTA V was going to release in October 2012.

    Poor, disillusioned chap :)

    As an aside, this release window seems pretty much inline with what everyone reasonably expected.

    I have not enjoyed a single home console version of GTA… PSP version? Great? Saints Row? Mafia 2, Red Dead Redemption? Lovely.

    I just don’t know what it is about the home console versions that leaves me cold :-/

    @6 I’m not a GTA fan, people give me shit for that all the time. I think it does many things right, and the quality of many aspects cannot be denied, but the scale of it bothers me. There’s a lack of focus. Too many distractions and not enough boxing in of the story.

    I felt Sleeping Dogs was better than ‘some’ GTA titles in the way it drove its story on. I dislike doing a GTA story mission and then doing 3-5 pointless side missions between the next story mission. It’s listless, dull and they are irrelevant chores.

    Making a big world and throwing in a ton of distractions is fine, but I’m a fan of solid, engaging stories. Wandering around doing taxi missions or pointless fetch errands breaks that engagement for me.

    I hope they make it better in GTA 5. Just my thoughts, though I’m sure many of you will disagree :)

    Final disclaimer: I’m NOT saying GTA games are bad. Not at all.

  8. KrazyKraut

    @7

    Yeah I understand you. Ppl will never get it when you saying:” hey I don’t like it” means not that it is a bad game. I have the problem with GTA too and Uncharted….

  9. polygem

    @7: i totally sign all that. i enjoyed the psp gta´s – but the home console gta´s, while okay, never really made me truly excited. i agree, you are getting a lot of hate if you say something like that. people praise rock* a lot and they probably deserve it. i mean if you look at gta as a persiflage of our society it is really something special. i can see that the gta games are also very good games, and technically very well made…they´re just not really made for me i guess…

    Edit: @8: same here with uncharted. enjoyed all of them but not to the same degree many others obviously had. not in my all time fave list. not at all. still great games.

    I never had the patience to play a GTA.

    All I ever did was run/drive around and try and get away from the police.

    The most I ever did was a bunch of missions in San Andreas, but I probably spent most of my time working out at the gym and eating burgers…

    Once I was super muscley, I lost interest.

    I hope it comes to PC, if its 1-12 months late I don’t care. Rockstar tends to be afraid of piracy. GTA IV had 3-4 methods of DRM :-/ .

    Rockstar bring the game to PC do a great port if not an outstanding Rockstar port, give support for mod tools e.g. Steamworkshop, use Steamworks. Money money money money! ShutUpAndTakeMyMoney.jpg

    I think I’m the only person I know who has actually beaten any of the GTA games. Most of my friends buy them and play until they get stuck on one story mission or the other and then just cause chaos in the open world the rest of the time they own them.

    The only one I haven’t beaten is San Andreas, because I got robbed after I was about 50 hours into the game. I replaced most of my old games, but that one…I was not going to do that stupid fucking aircraft carrier mission again.

    @15
    Same here dude. Although I have beaten every one of them (Gta3,vice city,4, liberty city stories, vice city stories, all dlcs, chinatown, san andreas) except 1and 2, top-down ones. I just couldn’t bring myself to play them after the playing 3rd person ones.
    Finished 3 of them without cheat codes, felt amazing after that!
    Although I can see why its not everyones cup of tea.

    @Dave
    You are welcome. I was trying for a while to get credited :) for one as its one of the best gaming sites according to me, but every time either the editors beat me to it or they took the news straight from the source :(.

    It’s coming to the PC too, they’ve announced that you can keep the crew you create in Max Payne 3 in GTA V, the PC was mentioned too. And it’s made by R* North, not San Diego, so a PC version is coming.

    And it will be the version to get, if you compare GTA IV on PC vs consoles, it’s impossible to play the console version (360 in my case) after playing the PC version at 1080p, 60fps and hi-res textures and much longer draw distance.

    The cover story in the new Game Informer is going to be 18 pages, GTA IV at the time had a 10 page cover story. So yeah, this game is HUGE! Judging by this artwork it seems dogs will play a significant role in this game and it’s also the very first time that there will be dogs in GTA V. The debut trailer already showed two dogs, but it’s good to see that they are still.

    I really hope dogs will be like followers/homies and that they follow you everywhere and attack the people you want him to attack. It’s definitely gonna make for a new experience.

    If the Wii U becomes a very successful system, i bet they will bring it to the system eventually. But Strauss Zelnick from Take Two has said that he’s very skeptical of the Wii U and not sure if he will bring titles like NBA2K13 and other titles to it.

    I love how this has already been announced for two systems that are already out and possibly the PC and meanwhile, there are people all, “I hope it comes out for the Wii U.” Just get it for the systems it’s announced for, you fat bastards.

    There are only 2 ways a gta will arrive on ninty consoles. Either they sell shitloads of their console and show 2K is wiiu/3ds is a viable platform or they give shitloads of money to 2K to bring a exclusive gta to their consoles.
    I would be happy either as there would be more gta!

    GTA3 was super, Vice City was nothing short of amazing, but I really stopped enjoying the series after that.

    @16 No, it’s just Rockstar don’t want to make it nextgen launch title. San Andreas came out on PS2, remember?

  32. Gigabomber

    GTA doesn’t seem nearly great if you haven’t played it in a while, but the level of polish stands out, especially when you go back, start a fresh game and have to wade through hours of overly restrictive intro missions.

    *edit* Red Dead is massively overrated.

    #32 2 years ago
  33. Clupula

    Ballad of Gay Tony was awesome, though. If the GTA V is entirely like that, it’ll be great. The checkpoints were something they should have instituted a long, long time ago, but the missions were sufficiently challenging and the humor was back in a big way, so it was what I hope V is like.

  34. Koncept6454

    I really hope they don’t bring a Wii u version, FIFA 13 has already shown it has limitations when bringing a port to it and it would only cheapen the title. I don’t mind if they bring a specific title of GTA to Wii u, but please don’t ruin 5 by lessening it to fit it to that console. We also need more details on the ps vita version! It is something the console definitely needs! And also nobody should should be shocked by this news in the slightest. Look at the last handful of titles from rockstar… what a surprise… They all come out q1… Oh and what’s that q1 is spring. So as soon as the announcement was made, and with max Payne 3′s date already set a monkey could of told you it was coming out spring 2013 unless they pulled agent out of the surprise cupboard but I doubt that’s happening any time soon. And pc guys, come on you know how rockstar work, they bring it out on consoles first and work on a complete pc version for about 6-12 months. That means you get a better engine and better overall graphics, so don’t you guys be worrying. There, there’s my thoughts, I look forward to any feedback

    I don’t like any other than Vice City.

  36. gomersoul

    @35 agreed… although some Nintendo die hards might kick off saying how the Wii u will be anything other then a stop gap for the real next gen to arrive! @36 finally someone who thinks vice city was the best! I like all the Gta games and I am really looking forward to the ps3 version… a spring release was obvious as they probably don’t need to use Christmas to sell copies. this will probably be the last hurrah for ps3/360… just hope the game lives up to the hype…

    Really enjoyed every GTA title so far and Red Dead is a fantastic title in my opinion.Recently played through GTA 4 again and it really very impressive technically when compared to other open world titles,im talking about on Xbox here and not PC where i know it looks much better with mods etc,i actually really enjoyed the story of GTA 4,its played a lot straighter than the craziness of past titles which i dont have a problem with,they wanted to try something different story wise and it worked out,in my eyes at least.Been a long time since i have played a Rockstar title that i have not really enjoyed.Last Rockstar game i did not care for was Manhunt,all been great since than.

    It’s an interesting point which shows why wii-u is doomed. It has no established user base to make cross platform development financially worthwhile and by the time it’s sold a few million we’ll all be on the next gen making downgrade development also pointless… It’s doomed.

    To each his own. I love every single GTA out there. San Andreas remains my favorite. GTA IV was also awesome, i loved the attention to detail, the atmosphere, the characters and so on. What was missing was variety in missions AND locations. We now go back to Los Santos and thus we also get the beautiful countryside. That’s something that was missing in GTA IV, and mission variety too. It had lots of great missions but also a bit too much filler.

    The Ballad of Tony DLC already did alot of good things. Several things are a given for GTA V. We get the much improved gun combat system from either RDR or MP3, which is gonna be great cause it wasn’t too good in GTA IV. We get the improved animations, physics and much looser control(which is again great, cause the sluggish controls aren’t really nice for todays standards). The countryside is back, and i hope we get several missions there and dogs seem to be a very important addition. This is going to make for a very different experience. I have alot of faith in Rockstar that this game will be amazing in many aspects.
