Sonic 2 heading to 3DS eShop, but there’s a catch.
Sonic the Hedgehog 2 – known by many fans as ‘the best one’ – is heading to the Nintendo 3DS eShop. But don’t get too excited just yet.

ONM reports that it’s the Game Gear version which, while still a rather superb platformer, isn’t the same as the Mega Drive edition.
The 8-bit version is as tough as nails, and sees Sonic running around mine shafts, hang-gliding through the clouds and dying a lot. It might sound like a kick in the stones, but it’s worth looking into when it launches in the West.
No release date has been given, but we will post up a confirmation when we know more.

Pointless in every way.

Man was this game hard when I was a child.
All bosses had no rings to collect before them, so had to defeat them without being hit.
That damned second chaos emerald with the bouncing clouds and hand-glider, I never got it in the end and so never saw the “Good” ending.
Perhaps I’ll buy it on the 3DS, use YouTube to find the emeralds and finally see the Good Ending…
Or rage-quit through the process

I actually preferred the 8 bit version of both Sonics over the Mega Drive games.

@3: me too! The hang gliding sections were neat, and the music great.
