Xbox SmartGlass launches alongside Windows 8 this week

Xbox SmartGlass, which allows you to control your console and Xbox Live content using your smartphone or tablet, will go live this week.

As detailed on Larry "Major Nelson" Hryb's blog, the Xbox 360 dashboard update in the process of rolling out to end users does in fact enable support for SmartGlass. The feature won't be activated until Windows 8 goes live though, on October 26.

SmartGlass is a free downloadable app which powers "key foundational experiences for interacting with your Xbox 360, such as dashboard and app navigation and Internet Explorer control, like text input, scrolling and pinch and zoom", and works with Xbox Video and Music.

The following games, apps and service will support the feature:

  • Games:
    - Ascend
    - Dance Central 3
    - Forza Horizon
    - Halo Waypoint
    - Home Run Stars
    - Karaoke
    - Kinect Sesame Street TV
