Epic Games hire Laura Fryer as general manager of Seattle Studio

Thursday, 18th October 2012 14:15 GMT By Nick Akerman

Epic Games has announced the hiring of Laura Fryer as general manager of its new Seattle studio. This particular branch is currently working on the company’s Unreal Engine 4 technology. Fryer arrives having enjoyed more than 17 years of industry experience.

Fryer previously spent four years as general manager of Warner Bros Games in Seattle, where she supervised development on titles including Gotham City Imposters and Guardians of Middle Earth.

She also shipped numerous titles as one of Microsoft Game Studio’s first employees. Fryer acted as producer on MS’s first release of Zone.com. She progressed into a director role at the Xbox Advanced Technology Group and became a founding member of the Xbox project.

While in this role, Fryer launched XNA, created the Xbox Advisory Board, prepared Xbox Developer Support and lead game events across the globe. When in the role of executive producer at the studios, she shipped the first two Gears of War titles.

Fryer’s background indicate she is a natural choice for Epic.

“Laura Fryer is one of the brightest leaders of the game industry today, and we’re thrilled to have her guide our new Seattle studio,” said Epic Games President Dr. Michael Capps. “Laura was a key member of the Gears of War team, and we’ve long hoped to work with her again.”

    Way to go ManuOtaku.

Somebody starts as head of Epic Games’ second studio and the most respect you can muster is to start with, ‘I’d give her one, even though she’s old and a bit past her prime,’ and book-end that with, ‘Better not let no girl near my Gears Of War, don’t want no flowers and rainbows and fluffy bunnies in it’.

#2 it was a compliment, a one that i was trying to give her, she looks pretty good, pretty well preserve for a person with a 17 years of expertise, she looks very young, or at least that was the impresion i got from this picture, sorry if it did sound like an insult, but it really wasnt the intention and neither the sentiment in the least, also i have tremendous respect for her, because like i did stated she did work on gotham city impostors, my favorire multiplayer FPS game, and thats also why i did wished here good luck and success, so if it did sound like an insult, sorry i didnt knew someone could have read it that way, because i would have try to use other words to put my sentiment more accurate, really sorry, the language barrier thing into play here.

@2: he clearly didn´t mean it that way…he would´ve said that about a guy as well probably. he just thought she looked damn young…and she does. i believe the gears part was because he´s not the biggest gears fan on earth ;)
maybe i am wrong about that tho…(Edit: or he meant he hopes she wont be busy doing the new gears game because he hopes for something more gotham city impostors like from epic…)

#9 Poly i like Gears, but after 3 games on the franchise and the next game i think they should do other things as well IMHO, something new, that i hope she is involve in that, on a new ip rather than gears 5 or 6, the same thing with uncharted, i like that game but after 3 games i hope for something new, like Naughty Dog is doing with last of us, in preparing a new game the mean time of uncharted 4, although i grant i wish for more gotham city impostors in the future.
