Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 pre-orders shatter GameStop’s records

Tuesday, 16th October 2012 02:40 GMT By Brenna Hillier

Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 seems set to follow the franchise tradition of setting new benchmarks, starting with GameStop’s pre-order record.

As reported by CVG, GameStop president Tony Bartel revealed the news, predicting an impressive debut.

“Consumer anticipation for Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 is tremendous. We are seeing the highest pre-orders in history,” he said.

“With its current pace, this Call of Duty is on track to break records and is likely to be our biggest game launch of all time.”

Each Call of Duty game released since Modern Warfare 2 has set successive records around the world, with individual titles taking out crowns as best-selling entertainment products – not just games. Modern Warfare 3 was ousted by Adele in the UK this year; Black Ops 2 looks set to take back the franchise’s place come launch in November on PC, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360.

Its ok pumpkin, you don’t have to buy it. Now go lie down & meditate on how we’re all different.

#1 i know, right? look at all the sheep whom think they are getting a new game from Activision, when its always been a copy/paste job with a texture update and reskined weapons and a few other additions, i can almost guarantee that after a few weeks of playing, people will find out what class is most OP and ruins the game, they will complain about campers and other stupid stuff, go on about how MW3 was better (which it most certainly isn’t) and then the cycle will continue, honestly Activision has the biggest scam of all gaming history and the people are none the wiser.

So sad that Cod shatters records and great games like dishonored, xcom and AC3 will be lucky to sell half as well.

@3 Also very well said, but people like us are the wiser and we try to tell them that and they are in denial.

@4 Don’t worry, AC3 will do good. But yeah, I know what you mean and I agree with you. The thing is, most of the gamers out there are kids who’ll keep buying shallow games. Other games like Dishonored and XCOM are far more complex and require a fully developed brain to play so..

Wow! The losers are out in force today. It really is sad that people [losers] come here just to hate.Could it be that all the people buying this game are doing so because-Gasp!-they like it? The really funny part is that pathetic morons eg #7 somehow think they are superior beings because they choose to actively hate something that will be enjoyed by millions of GAMERS come the thirteenth of November. You aren’t clever or superior. You’re just deadshits.

Assassins Creed 3 is the same thing like CoD and it will do good in numbers.

@8, Millions of people also enjoy Halo or Angry Birds, that does not make them obsolete too.

One thing is true is that Call Of Duty games are bad games and people who buy them don’t know any better or they don’t have any alternative.

MW3 was the last CoD for me, i’m not buying Black Ops 2 for sure.

People play the CoD games because they’re very good. They may be repetitive, and you may not like the core gameplay, but every time one is released there are 15 million gamers that are willing to fork out their cash for a copy and disagree with you.

YOU are the minority. The general (and generally accepted) consensus, both critically and commercially, is that these are great games.

“People play the CoD games because they’re very good.”

People play CoD games because they don’t know any alternative. CoD games are not good. CoD games are the same game that I played in 1999 year but with meta gaming this time. It’s just a simple military running and gunning game, it’s the same as Angry Birds. Very accessible piece of entertainment on consoles.

“People play CoD games because they don’t know any alternative”

If you genuinely think that people play CoD because they’re incapable of finding any other games to play then you really are deluded. On what facts to you base that completely inane statement?

Secondly, being similar to another game does not make it bad. People clamor for games that hark back to old titles – nostalgic gameplay etc etc. Look at project eternity, or even how people are looking for another RE1 or RE4 instead of the newer, action-oriented direction. Old is fine if it’s still fun. People are still playing counter strike… how old is that?

    “Very accessible piece of entertainment”

Which is exactly why it’s good. It’s very accessible – it’s accessible because it’s entertaining. You pretty much destroyed your own argument there lad.

He never played anything in 1999. Common people didn’t have internet in Russia in 90s. Best he could is go to internet cafes, but seeing as how kids at school don’t have much money..

One thing which is true is that when you’re full of shit, you’re full of shit. He just needs something popular to hate.

Hmm, I though GS would’ve announced this sooner actually, things have been quite quiet on the front of Blops 2′s pre-order numbers =/
