Can’t remember: Is this one going to be an MMO?

Yep, it’s going to be an MMO, action MMO in a way.

Mostly using 4.0e Rules with At-Will powers (left/right clicks), Encounter Powers (medium Cooldown) and daily powers (longer cooldowns).

Mmmh, no. MMO is a misnomer, here. It’s actually like Guild Wars 2 and DDO in that the world outside of lobbies is instanced to the party you’re in. I could be wrong about this, but that’s just how I remember it. And really, this is the best route they could have gone down with this.

Both Dungeons & Dragons Online and the original Guild Wars benefited massively from this approach, as did most of the content of Champions Online and Star Trek Online (Cryptic’s other two games), which is mostly instanced too.

After returning to Champions Online recently and remembering just how insanely, beautifully, “We don’t care!” levels of fun that game is, I’m actually kind of excited for this. For all one might say about Cryptic, they know how to make an online experience which is genuinely fun to play. So… this might be good. It might also be terrible. But if they’ve learned anything from CO, it might be really, really good.
