Stars of Barathrum is a new IP in the works at Valve – massive rumor

Valve is rumored to be working on an open-world game called Stars of Barathrum, which takes place in space.

This is according to the gaming forum Facepunch, which claims the images posted on the forum are from the game.

The site says players will be able to pilot various ships, and it’s large and ambitious in scope, and “plays like privateer/freelancer,” and contains “a vast and open-world where you choose your own adventure.”

The concept art posted was created by Peter König, an ex-Valve employee from 2008 until this year.

Take all of this with a grain of salt, says Gaming Bolt, and we agree with them.

König has worked as a freelance artist since leaving Valve, so his artwork could be from or for anything. So, yeah.

This isn’t the first time concept art has surfaced as you see in the video below from February.

I hope it is true. This looks weird yet very unique. It can really be a great CyperPunkish open world game.

But then again, the Valve I know doesn’t really love love risky and huge projects.

Sounds abit like the leaked half life 3 rumored about the game being open world and stuff

Wow!! Sounds pretty neat. Does anyone know if it’s inspired from certain books?

Space: the final frontier. These are the voyages of the Starship Gaben. Its lifelong mission: to explore strange new ideas, to seek out new gameplay and new games, to boldly go where no man has gone before

Very likely false, but oh how fun it would be if it wasn’t.

Wait, wait, wait.

Valve Corporation.

and

“Plays like Freelancer”.

It’s not my birthday, is it?!

I’m with Old MacDonald though. That’s entirely too good to be true.

This might very well be that project that Valve needed to enter MMO space, but eventually they went back to expand TF2 as their F2P model.

There were already FPS MMos, like Neocron.

I like the idea of a Freelancer-type game made by Valve. Now this might be a hoax, or it might come right after HL2EP3. Either way, I’ll wait for confirmation before jizzing in my pants.

@12: sure sure, there are even more of them….but i really do think we will see a lot more of these and far bigger (and better). i am sure the next bungie thing (destiny) will be something like an epic huge faction based mmofps and i believe it will be a big surprise and really really good – become a new trend really. i can see valve doing something like that too.

@14, if they do that, it better be amazing, because it’ll be hard to beat Planetside 2 in that genre.
