SWTOR wins four awards at GDC Online

Star Wars: The Old Republic walked away with four awards this week during GDC Online.

The MMO from BioWare Austin won awards for: Best Online Game Design, Best Online Visual Arts, Best Online Technology, and Best New Online Game.

Other winners included Blizzard, Riot Games, thatgamecompany, and OMGPoP.

Best Online Game Design

  • WINNER: Star Wars: The Old Republic (BioWare Austin)

    These awards are bit… general. “Best New Online Game”? Could they be any more vague? There are quite a few genres of online games and they should each have their own respective awards. You can’t really compare Facebook games, MOBAs, dungeon crawlers, shooters and MMOs.

    Also, TOR shouldn’t win any awards in any category.

    Why not? You have to remeber GDC is Game DEVELOPERS conference. They are most likely looking at the game from a technical standpoint, whereas pretty much any other awards are based purely on subjectivity.

    But still, it needs something to help prevent this game being on life support when it celebrates its first birthday with just enough players left to each have a slice of a very small cake.
