Super Contra heading to western 3DS eShop – report

Thursday, 11th October 2012 13:51 GMT By Dave Cook

Super Contra has been age-rated for the Nintendo 3DS eShop in Australia. The NES version of the game – entitled ‘Super C’ has never been released outside of Japan, so this could be your first chance to play it in its pure form Contra fans.

Nintendo Life reports that while the arcade version of Super Contra has been released in the West, the Nintendo build has not been made available beyond Japan and America.

The Australian Board of Classification has rated the game for 3DS, and you can check out the listing here.

If this does signify an Australian release, it might not be long until other Australia and Europe get their mitts on it. To be fair, it’s bloody hard and it’s probably going to make us weep, but we still want to play it.

If i’m not mistaken, it’s available on the Wii Virtual console – so hardly the first time it’ll be available in the West.

American here. I had this game as a kid for the NES. My brother and I used to play it constantly.

I am not exactly sure where it came from however; we had gotten the NES second-hand with a bunch of games. It was all localized in English though (not that it had much text other than life bar, score, copyrights).

EDIT: The name of the game we had was “Super C”. Perhaps that’s why they are saying it’s technically a different release? Looks like the same game though.
