Yeah traditionally Europe (UK in particular) are Sony’s strongest markets so this is no surprise.

However their “sold” figures usually represent sold into supplier/retail channel, not to the consumer. I wonder which this 5 million refers to?

When companies champion the fact that their sales have increased 138%, it’s a highly irrelevant statistic unless actual sales totals are given. While 138% increase sounds impressive – it’s not if only 100 PS3′s where sold in the first place…

Brand loyalty has saved PS3, its late start, high price & hacking scandal, would have killed a lesser brand. And Sony are actively buying loyalty, with their game giveaways. Not many will be willing to jump ship if they know their getting 24+ games a year for £30.

MS have North America. That’s a given. Plus they are ruthless when it comes to exclusives and I expect to see more of that. Also it’s *common knowledge* that theirs is the best online service, so when it cones to streaming content, who you gonna trust?

Now Ninty is a hard one. Yes it’s got the franchises, but that didn’t help the GameCube and how many people have a Wii just sitting in the cupboard? But seeing as almost every other house has a ds of some kind, brand familiarity should see them ok.

Despite major missteps early, I think sony has done a great job in regaining much of the goodwill it lost. Now, if they dont commit the mistakes again (which they wont probably), they can regain the lead next-gen.
Also ps3 will overcome 360 in sales in 1-2 years. But replicating ps or ps2 sales will be difficult.

I also don’t go into every article. if I really were a troll, and wanted to do that, there’s an excellent opportunity to troll yet another maintenance a few posts down the page.

Nope, not going to materialize. X360 isn’t going to be discontinued because there’re no fees to pay and no rush like with the original. it’s going to live a healthy, long life, probably coming close to PSX lifetime figures eventually.

The Wii’s the only home console that will get close to the PS1. The difference between the 360 & PS3 isn’t even a couple million, if it weren’t for Halo 4, the PS3 may have been able to close that gap by the end of the year. I expect Sony to have overtaken the 360 by the first quarter of next year, Q2 by the latest. I also expect the PS3 to have some life in it after the PS4′s been released, heck I believe the PS2 is still being manufactured.

What? PS1 sold 100 million in a decade.. Wii is currently about the same being six years old (same as PS2).. It’s going to sell about the same as PS2, if any.

If you want to assess how well a console has done compared to other consoles, you look at the sales from when it ENTERED the competition and what it has achieved in the same time frame as another console. But you love ignoring the 1 year head start from xbox. You are trying to say xbox 360 has sold more and so is better, but the reality ps3 is leading the sales in the time frame ps3 has been out. But because you have no brain you will ignore this, again. And you can’t put the wii in the same category , it’s not like ps2 vs gamecube here. the wii is much less powerfull than xbox 360/ps3, and cheaper , so it will sell more.

The majority of sales this gen i believe was due to pricing, and not people knowing what console does what. And you say ps is dying? lol. Firstly the only thing driving the xbox sales right now is the kinect bundle packs and 4 gig version. without them ill bet they’d barely hit 20000 sales for the week. Again everything comes down to pricing. Now imagine a $50 cheaper ps3, and you can say bye bye to xbox 360. All sony needs to do is lower the 12 gig console to the price of a 4 gig xbox 360 and match the bundle. When it comes to next gen, ps4 will be in the same price range as xbox 720, and obviously will take the world wide lead, even in the US. Not only that but a great majority of current xbox 360 owners who are sick of kinect and not getting exclusives will make a shift over to ps4, if they aren’t already doing so for ps3. By the end of each year ps4 will be ahead by a few million. So as for ps4 dying , keep dreaming. What else will the ps4 have that is keeping xbox 360 players or willing buyers away from ps3? cross game chat.

That is reality, ps4 will dominate world wide even more so than this gen. It’s not possible for sony to emulate the success it had on ps2, because of the xbox. I would love to see ps4 release for around $499/599, but because of xbox which will ship cheaper consoles. It’s sad majority of people wont pay that bit of extra for something really great. It’s because of the xbox the ps4 won’t be what it could be.

God Of War winning awards for best looking ps2 games doesn’t take away the fact the machine was about as good as a 1999 PC.
