Kickstarter adds support for UK projects this month

Kickstarter has announced it will up support for UK-based projects from October 31.

As detailed on the crowdfunding site's blog, UK-hosted campaigns will accept pledges directly through the site rather than through Amazon, and will accept pounds sterling rather than US dollars.

The site has also tweaked its pledge system a little, allowing creators to restrict rewards to domestic backers where shipping costs would prove prohibitive.

Kickstarter has already hosted a number of UK-made gaming projects, notably Stainless Games' Carmageddon, but the new features should remove several obstacles for UK developers.

Although the territory-specific features won't come into effect at the end of the month, creators can build project pages now, ahead of launch.

This is excellent news for everyone and everything except my wallet; Britain is sardined with talented independent games developers and I cannot wait to fling currency at them.

Thanks, GamesIndustry.
