Gears of War film back on the cards - report

Gears of War's long-shelved movie project seems to be ramping up again.

Variety reports New Line put the Gears of War project on the back burner while it focused on The Hobbit, and Creative Artists Agency, which represents Epic Games, is ready to go elsewhere.

The company is said to be looking for producers to take over the project which has been in New Line's hands since 2007, and has been attached to Len Wiseman of Underworld and the new Total Recall fame; Twilight team Marty Bowen and Wyck Godfrey.

The script has also changed hands a couple of times, with treatments from Chris Morgan (Wanted), Billy Ray (State of Play) and most recently Stuart Beattie (Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides). Beattie's script will apparently be carried forward into negotiations with the new production team.

Game to movie adaptations are notoriously difficult; Gears of War suffered a major setback in 2010 when Wiseman pulled out of the project.
