Assassin’s Creed 3 US trailer censored to remove American troop slaughter

Ubisoft trying to sell to Americans who just want to play a part in their revolutionary war, but I think they’re also trying to not upset some sensitive Americans. Weird really, us Brits don’t really care lol.

Think this was plain unnecessary and a case of overreaction. Or at the very least Ubisoft trying too hard not to upset Americans. I’ve got lots of British friends who have seen plenty of AC3 trailers and they are not upset that British people are being slaughtered. So why does America get the special treatment? I’m sorry, but I just don’t see what the point is in this type of censorship.

It really doesn’t make much sense. They remove the slaughter of US troops in a commercial for the game, basically, but the slaughter is still in the game and completely interactive.

Make up your mind, Ubisoft.

trailers are different. You could be browsing a site and that trailer might appear and play, or if it will be featured on TV in the states then any one could possibly see it.

I think its more to cater for those Americans who aren’t interested in Assassins creed but will still come across the trailer. Ubisoft saving them selves from angry folk who have to much patriotism.

If it was apart of Americas story why censor it?

They’re doing it for 2 simple reasons:
- ‘Mericans are more lawsuit happy than Brits
- They’re defending themselves from Republicans and Tea Parties (ref.

LOL, really? Call of Duty shows America getting invaded by Russia… It’s the revolutionary war for the US! I would expect to see casualties on both sides! Remember Ubisoft… you are weaving fiction into a historical event. It doesn’t mean Conner actually killed US colonial soldiers in real life.

I don’t think Americans have any problems owning their history. What made the revolution so awesome was that they took so many beatings and still managed to stick it to the worlds greatest superpower.

I really don’t see why Ubisoft would feel the need to censor it. If you’re running it on Thanksgiving or something, then it might be considered a weak sort of courtesy, but I don’t think anyone asked for it.

@8 They also have something called the First Amendment, which means that any lawsuit trying to infringe on imagery like that would be thrown out at the hearing.

Probably a good decision, that kind of thing can go down badly in the US. If it sells more copies this way then so be it, its not like they’ve edited the content from the game.

@19: Sure it is. You can still kill everyone in the game, that also includes american soldiers. I wonder if some missions involve killing american soldiers, or if it’s just a scene showing Connor randomly killing people.

And just remember you can kill civilians in avery AC game, way worst than killing soldiers of a beloved country, and yet nobody complains

as an American i think that this is complete and total BS, i don’t mind at all the part of the trailer where Connor kills American Colonial Troops, hell i’m looking forward to the part the of the game where I actually have to kill an templar on the american side of the war, simply cause the whole killing of british has just like venice in AC2 been in my opinion over hyped or at least focused on to much, ubisoft needs start showing more killing of American Templars

I’m american and in no way does it offend me, ubisoft made this decision not the american people. Please don’t try to put all americans in this “they’re too sensitive” category. The fact of the matter is the killing of american colinial troops is in the game and I haven’t seen it made a big deal of anywhere here in the US.

Even if some crappy news outlet does mention it, since when do journalists represent the average person, they always try to blow stories out of proportion.

This doesn’t even make sense, there has been a littany of movies and games where US troops die, including a host of moder military games.

The only word I can use to describe this is silly…It’s just so nonsensical. As an American I’m in no way offended by the idea that some Americans could be bad guys. We Americans slaughtered the Native Americans for no reason other than wanting their land. So yeah…Our hands aren’t clean either. Another thing to think about is at this point in history VERY few people thought of themselves as “American”. On top of everything the killing of the soldiers is completely without context. For all anyone knows they’re traitors or undercover Templar. In fact it’s pretty well established in this series that there are plenty of American Templar…I really think Ubisoft needs to just sack up instead of cutting parts of trailers out. Frankly, if anyone IS offended by this, they’re just going to be more angry it was cut out of the trailer. At least if it was in the trailer, they’d know to avoid the game.

They are ultimately protecting themselves from lawsuits. America is undoubtedly litigious. On the other hand, it’s more than a bit amusing how my US friend have reacted to this. There’s more than a little bit of irritation there – and both at Ubisoft and at the US. Since there are people in the US who’d sue over that, but at the same time it’s completely ridiculous that it would get censored.

I think @1 is closer to what’s really going on. It’s not that modern Americans actually care about minute men getting killed, it’s that Ubisoft want to appeal to the camo-wearing NRA-membership-carrying flagwaving pey-tri-uht.

They just want to make it look cool for the Tea Party crowd.

I had another friend speculate that that was really why Assassins Creed had been bogged down with all the scifi crap to begin with. Americans might not be able to connect with a real Hashashin or renaissance Italian.

Although that would really just be Ubisofts opinion of them. We all know they don’t have the biggest respect for any of their customers.
